Event Details

 Victor Center 

Come get screened for Jewish genetic diseases free of charge at University of Pennsylvania's Steinhardt Hall.

This opportunity is only available to students who are between the ages of 18 to 35!

You do not need to be a Penn student to attend the screening, but you must have a valid student id!!

The screening is being sponsored by the

Mirowski Family Foundation

and the Nursing Alumni Association of Albert Einstein Medical Center

 

PLEASE NOTE YOU ARE REGISTERING FOR A SPECIFIC TIME! IF YOU DO NOT SHOW UP FOR THE CORRECT TIME, WE CAN NOT GUARANTEE YOU WILL GET SCREENED! YOU MAY ONLY REGISTER FOR ONE TIME!

The screening is through Albert Einstein Medical Center's Victor Center for Jewish Genetic Diseases. If you choose to take advantage of this amazing opportunity, you will meet with a certified genetic counselor and have your blood drawn by a certified phlebotomist.

The whole process will last approximately a half hour.

Participants will be screened for Bloom syndrome, Canavan disease, Cystic fibrosis, Familial Dysautonomia, Fanconi anemia- Type C, Gaucher disease Type 1, Mucolipidosis IV, Niemann-Pick disease- Type A, and Tay-Sachs disease

It is estimated that 1 in 5 Ashkenazi Jews is a carrier of a mutation in a gene for one of several Jewish Genetic Diseases.
